Found on the site of the old Manuel Works, Whitecross.

The manufacturer of this brick is unknown but it is highly likely it was made at the Manuel Works.

Note the fingerprints.

18 or 81?

The bricks found so far weigh between 3.1 and 3.5kg

Below – The same brick found by Ian Suddaby on the site of the old Manuel Works, Whitecross.

This example is not in my possession.

Ian states – The fabric is a greyish-white with purple-grey ends. It’s roughly 8¼” long, 4″ wide and 2½ thick. There are two probable fingermarks on one end and extrusion markings down the sides. It’s poorly shaped too. So what’s unusual? Everything really. The colours are rare and the size is less than normal. Fingermarks are probably unknown on Stein products at Manuel, as is extruded brick technology. Their quality control was normally excellent. Is this some sort of experimental batch? I have seen two or three of these, all marked 18 (or 81).
