Below – Many thanks to David Shanks for sending in these photos of the Brackenhirst Fireclay Works. The date is c. mid-1970’s. David states ” My grandpa purchased the Ryding Estate from Glasgow Cooperation in 1967, included in the title was the home farm of Brackenhirst and the old fireclay works. My belief was the works manufactured clay pipes but I may be wrong, I just remember it being referred to as the old pipe works.
In the mid-seventies, the buildings and 2 chimneys were demolished By local contractor Davie Mason and subsequently we used the yard space. Some years later my grandpa sold the yard and as of today is owned by Mosley Distributors Ltd and is run as a coach sales and repair depot”
