The following information and photographs have been supplied by Jack Whittles and Christa Stone from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. Jack states “Recently I have been collecting many bricks from a colliery site on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada.  The Colliery was for the Cumberland Coal Mines that were in operation from about 1888 to 1961….

Found Dalkieth and donated by Nick Basden. Winchburgh Brickworks, Winchburgh, West Lothian. Note the ‘G’ appears to be of a different font from the rest of the letters and the ‘N’ is reversed. . . .

Found at Bo’ness. Winchburgh Brickworks, Winchburgh, West Lothian. . . . . Below – A similar stamp on a slightly different shaped frog. Note the reversed ‘D’. Found by Ian Suddaby in the Water of Leith, Edinburgh (Slateford to Stenhouse). This example is not in my possession.

Found at the Winchburgh brick and tile works, Winchburgh. Winchburgh Brickworks, Winchburgh, West Lothian Note the missing H at the end of Winchburgh. The mark looks symmetrical as it is,  so it does not look like its missing in error! . . .
