Fullarton Brickworks, Dundonald, South Ayrshire
28/06/1804 – Caledonian Mercury – Valuable Estate in Ayrshire to be sold in the month of November next, altogether or in lots as will be afterwards advertised.
The lands and Barony of Fullarton lying in the Parish of Dundonald with the Mansion house, offices, gardens and hothouses containing above 1500 Scots acres mostly arable and all included and subdivided … This Estate including the Troon, besides the Lady Isle which belongs to it, has upwards of 5 miles of seashore and kelp shores. There is a free seaport and harbour at Troon, with good anchoring ground all round the Troon Point; and under this point there is an excellent bed of fire clay, not above 5 feet from the surface and from four to ten feet thick, which is taken out at small expense and is in great demand both for exportation and manufacturing on the spot where a brick kiln, a mill for grinding, a pottery and 3 kelp kilns are erected … Thomas Gilmour overseer at Fullarton will show the premises.
