This trough is in the possession of Ian Suddaby and was found in Dumfriesshire.
Ian states “This one is 33″ long, 18″ wide and 9″ deep and was made by George Clennell at Sanquhar Brick & Tile Works in Dumfriesshire. The long sides of the trough have four stamps, two each side, one with G. CLENNELL and one with SANQUHAR. It is at least partially glazed.
This is the only trough I have with red brick-like fabric and I’m not sure if this is the same mixture that formed the bricks or whether the fireclay in that area is pink. If it’s not made from fireclay, that would be very rare.”
