Found in dumped rubble at Glenboig. This may read IXIII or IIIXI or indeed looking at the photo it may actually read IXIIII or the reverse of that. These appear to be Roman numerals although they do not equate to an actual number. The manufacturer is unknown. The find location would suggest Scottish origins but…
Found by Robert Jameison in the Dalry area of Ayrshire. I am not in possession of this example. The brick is obviously badly damaged but I suspect the stamp will be as per above. Found by AOC Archaeology at the old glassworks, Bath Road, Leith, Edinburgh. This oversized brick has a taper on the stretcher side. 4″ down to 3 1/4″ Heathfield Fireclay Works, Heathfield, Lanarkshire. Found by Richard Comish at Millom, Cumbria. I think this stamp may be II as in Roman numerals as Docken used them on their bricks but I appreciate it could equally be 11 – eleven.
