The following Gilmour & Co, Kilmarnock brick was recovered at the Cumbernauld Fire Clay Works, Cumbernauld Station near Glasgow by Ian King. The pipeworks were closed down and the brick was within an office.
Ian was an electrical engineer who worked at many Scottish brickworks.
Ian was informed by Bill Becket, the manager at the works that the Gilmour brick had been used to establish the composition of the enamel.
The Kilmarnock brick manufacturers were famous for the quality of the enamel glaze on their bricks and it is assumed that the Cumbernauld Fire Clay Works were comparing it to the glaze they used on their own products.
