R McA & S – Possibly Robert McAlpine & Son? as in Robert McAlpine
McAlpine appears to have been involved in brickworks at Stonefield, Hamilton Hill, Kelvinside and possibly St Rollox, all in the Glasgow area. It is also recorded that he often set up temporary brickworks on construction sites he was building on. This could quite possibly be a brick manufactured in such a temporary kiln. The quality of the brick with regards composition is quite poor – friable.
