Stein Maksiccar Patch

Found by Ian Suddaby on the site of the Manuel Brickworks, Whitecross.

This example is not in my possession.

Ian states – I thought Maksiccar was a Stein brand name for refractory cement but looking at the ever helpful SBH website, a 1936 list of the Stein products and codes mentions two types of Maksiccar Cement and also a Maksiccar Patch.

I presume this find was made from the cement, which was of course fairly similar to the mix used in the bricks and shapes it bonded. It’s clearly a quarter of a nozzle or vent for something. It’s also the first thing we’ve ever found with the Maksiccar name. I bet it’s the last too.
