Unmarked crown T & G brick

Found at the Stein Manuel Works, Whitecross.

Ron Toothill states – Its hard to say from the wear but this looks like a high alumina crown T&G brick used in a blast furnace – hot blast stove used to brick the hot face of the burner vertical chimney wall. Maybe a ‘Hoogoven’ design crown shape? These bricks would have a very small taper from back to front to form the radius of the chimney. Just one taper would be used to build these walls. The T&G is thought to assist with vibration from the mechanical or gas burner close by. Perhaps Thistle or Nettle but I cannot be sure.
